Church Priorities Exposed
You don’t disciple someone’s brain. You disciple their story. Yet most programs treat people like they’re all in the same place. Real disciplemaking starts with the person, not the plan. Today, I’m sharing how MicroGroups create space for personalized, Spirit-led growth.
💬 I’ll never forget that MicroGroup.
Billy was in his 30s.
Ron was in his 40s.
Dave was in his 50s.
I was the oldest.
We were from different walks of life…
…and we were exactly what each other needed.
- Billy needed perspective on marriage and fatherhood.
- Ron needed healing from a violent father to believe God could be loving.
- Dave needed courage to leave a stable business and follow a new calling.
- I needed their prayer to walk through cancer.
A program couldn’t have met all those needs.
But a relationship could.
🧭 The Big Idea: Transformation isn’t synchronized. It’s personalized.
Programs are timed.
Relationships are tuned.
That’s why Jesus didn’t say, “Follow this outline.”
He said, “Follow Me.”
✅ 4 Reasons Why MicroGroups Create Lasting Change
- Relationships flex. Programs don’t.
In a classroom of 15, you can’t pause and dive into one person’s story.
In a MicroGroup of 3 or 4, you can and should.
That flexibility is where deeper healing happens. - Mutual confession requires safety.
You can’t fake it when you’re seen weekly.
Over time, people stop pretending.
They start opening up.
And they experience real repentance and growth. - The Holy Spirit leads the learning.
There’s no “expert” in the room.
The curriculum and Scripture are the teachers — the group members are the interpreters.
One week, you might speak something powerful.
The next, someone else says what you needed. - It’s about life-change—not worksheet answers.
Too often, discipleship programs reduce to, “Fill in the blank.”
We aim for deeper reflection:
“Where is the Spirit challenging you right now?”
“What truth are you struggling to apply?”
“How can we hold each other accountable this week?”
That’s not content-checking.
That’s transformation.
If you’ve been longing for a deeper discipleship experience—one that actually changes people—you’re not alone.
Programs have their place, but they’re not the model Jesus gave us.
Jesus discipled real people, in real time, with real love.
So should we.
