How Do YOU Make Disciples?
A Wake-Up Call from Matthew 28:18–20
“All authority in heaven and on earth
has been given to Me.
Go therefore and make disciples of all nations…” – Matthew 28:18–19
Jesus did not give a suggestion.
He gave a command.
And not just to pastors.
Not just to missionaries.
To you.
But if we’re honest… many believers quietly step back from this calling.
The Push-Back Mindsets
(What We Say—Out Loud or Quietly)
These are the thoughts that keep people stuck as “Christians in name only” instead of disciplemakers:
- “I can’t do that.”
(Translation: I don’t feel equipped.) - “That’s for leaders, not me.”
(Delegating obedience.) - “I don’t want the responsibility.”
(Avoiding cost.) - “I’ll just live a good life—that’s enough.”
(Confusing example with obedience.) - “What if I say the wrong thing?”
(Fear over faith.) - “People won’t respond anyway.”
(Pre-deciding failure.) - “I’m too busy.”
(Crowded life, empty mission.) - “I just want to be a Christian, not… all that.”
(Settling for identity without surrender.)
But here’s the truth:
👉 The Great Commission is not optional.
👉 It is the defining mark of a follower.
To refuse the mission is to resist the Master.
What Jesus Actually Commanded
(Clarity Changes Everything)
The command is not complicated—but it is costly.
There is one central command:
👉 Make disciples
Everything else explains how:
- Go
- Baptize
- Teach
These are not separate missions.
They are the pathway of multiplication.
And notice:
This is not about getting decisions.
It is about forming obedient followers.
“Teaching them to observe all that I have commanded….”
Jesus is not building fans.
He is forming people who live like Him.
The Focus: Jesus Working IN You and THROUGH You
Here is where many miss it.
Disciplemaking is not:
❌ Your strength
❌ Your personality
❌ Your knowledge
It is:
✅ His authority
✅ His presence
✅ His Spirit
“All authority… has been given to Me…. I am with you always….”
You are not the source.
You are the vessel.
Like a branch connected to the vine—
Life flows through you, not from you.
So the question shifts:
👉 Not “Can I do this?”
👉 But “Will I yield to Him doing it through me?”
What Strategies Did Jesus Use?
(Not Programs—Patterns)
Jesus did not run events.
He built people.
Here’s His pattern:
1. Start Small (Intentional Relationships)
Jesus focused on a few—not the crowds.
If you want to go wide, you must go deep.
2. Live Life Together
Discipleship wasn’t a class.
It was shared life.
Walking. Eating. Serving. Watching.
3. Teach and Model Obedience
Not just information—but transformation.
“Follow Me” meant:
- Watch Me
- Walk with Me
- Become like Me
4. Call for Replication
A disciple is not complete until they reproduce.
This is why disciplemaking is multiplication, not addition.
5. Empower and Send
Jesus didn’t keep them dependent.
He released them.
Why MicroGroups Are the Missing Link
Most churches struggle here—not because they don’t care…but because they try to mass-produce what Jesus made personally.
MicroGroups restore the pattern.
👉 Small
👉 Intentional
👉 Relational
👉 Reproducible
This is not a modern idea.
This is how Jesus made disciples.
Through MicroGroups, you can:
- Walk closely with a few.
- Study Scripture together.
- Apply truth immediately.
- Hold each other accountable.
- Multiply into new groups.
And over time…
➡️ Disciples make disciples.
➡️ Groups multiply.
➡️ Movements begin.
This is the heartbeat behind
Global Discipleship Initiative
Our vision is simple and bold:
👉 Disciplemaking movements in every nation
👉 Through reproducible MicroGroups
The Real Question
(You Cannot Avoid This)
Jesus did not say:
“Go and consider making disciples.”
He said:
👉 "Go and make disciples."
So now the question is not theological…
It is personal.
Personal Reflection
(Don’t Skip This)
- Who am I currently discipling?
- Who is discipling me?
- Where am I avoiding obedience?
- What step is God asking me to take right now?
Three Key Takeaways
- Disciplemaking is not optional. It is obedience.
- You are not the source. Jesus works through you.
- The method is simple: small, relational, reproducible (MicroGroups).
Final Call
You don’t need a stage.
You don’t need a title.
You don’t need permission.
You need surrender.
Start with 3-4 in a MicroGroup
Invite them on a journey for accelerated Christian growth.
Open the Word with Discipleship Essentials as a basic tool.
Walk together.
And watch what God multiplies.
